Linda Sue Shiflett Hodge, 61, of Craigsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 surrounded by her loving family after a five year battle with cancer.
She was born November 1, 1951 to the late Fred “Sunnybunk” Shiflett and Kathleen Ingram Shiflett. On August 14, 1976 she married Richard Thomas Hodge whom preceded her in death. Also preceding in death is a brother, Fred “Hopper” Shiflett.
Linda worked at Stillwater Mills in August Springs for 18 years. Before that she worked as a clerk in several local stores. When Stillwater closed she went to work for Augusta County Schools at Craigsville Elementary School until her health forced retirement.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. She could always be found sitting at her table with her bible open reading scriptures.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Miranda and Richard Hall of Goshen, Virginia; three grandchildren whom she called her “blue eyed darlings”, Keaton, Nathan & Kaitlyn Hall of Goshen; a sister Delores “Sissy” Via of Craigsville; two brothers, Kenny Shiflett & wife Sheila of Craigsville, Randy Shiflett & wife Terry of Staunton; a special nephew, Eric Shiflett whom she loved as her own & his wife, JoAnn and daughter Shana of Craigsville; two nephews David & Justin Shiflett of Staunton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was blessed for years with great loving neighbors, Lisa & Earl McCray and Willie & Donald Hayes. She had many great friends who called, visited and sent cards daily. Her best friends were Mary Jo Miller, June Hurn, Cathy Haislett, Ruth, JoAnn & Fay McLain and Darlene Hubbard. A special sister-in-law, Mavis Plecker and special friend Glenna and Blaine Lawhorn.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Adkins officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Goshen. Pallbearers will be Eric Shiflett, Robert Plecker, Larry Plecker, Earl McCray, Larry Welcher and Gary Farrar. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home or anytime at the home of Miranda & Richard Hall, 236 Furnace Hill Road, Goshen, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Craigsville Church of God of Prophecy.
