Kenneth Eugene Puckett

Kenneth Eugene Puckett, 81, husband of Della Sprouse Puckett, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:40 a.m. at his residence after a lengthy battle with health issues, leaving behind a very special friend, Larry Reid.
Born August 28, 1932 in Craigsville, he was the eldest son of the late Harry P. Puckett and Mildred Martin Puckett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Puckett; a brother, Harry Lee Puckett; an infant great grandson, Toby Puckett; and several uncles and aunts.
He retired from Southern Stainless Steel Corp. of Waynesboro. Prior to that he worked with Powell & Company as a refrigerator mechanic and making walk-in freezers. After working with Jordon’s Refrigerator and Montgomery Ward, Kenneth served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Ingersoll DD652 with 4 years of service as a cook.
Kenneth was an avid cook, loved to spend time with family, study his Bible and at one time was a wonderful Sunday School teacher.
He was a member of Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene; American Legion Post 2216; loved to cook, hunt and woodworking; and was an avid outdoorsman .
He is survived by his wife, Della Mae Puckett of Craigsville; 3 children, Steve Puckett & wife Deborah of Greenville, Virginia, Gary Puckett & friend Margaret and Kevin Puckett & wife Vonda all of Craigsville; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Wayne Puckett & wife Linda and Charles Puckett & wife Delores all of Craigsville; 2 sisters, Betty Eagle & husband Bill of Rainelle, West Virginia and Daisy Blevins & husband Donald of Swoope, Virginia; and a special friend, Larry Reid.
N A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michell Simmons, Thomas Puckett, Danny Kaye, Curtis Wilcher, Wade Clifton, Larry Reid, Larry Wilcher, Thomas Humphries Harvey Sprouse and Ron Sprouse.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the church.
