Marvin Junior Knight, Sr.

MarvinMarvin Junior Knight, Sr., 82, of Craigsville, Virginia died Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Augusta Health.

He was born June 10, 1937 in Craigsville, VA, the son of the late Jack Wayne Knight and Florence Buchanan Knight.

Marvin was formerly employed as a farmer and logger.

He was a loving husband, father, step-father, and grandfather who loved fishing and riding through the mountains.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lauvella Sue Yount Knight; children, James Knight, Jack Knight, Adrian Shifflet and husband Jimmy, Kimberly Ann Knight, Elsie Bowman; step-children, Ami Wilson, Kenneth Williams, David Williams, Wayne Williams; too many grandchildren to name; 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special nephew, Preston Knight and wife Tracie.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Lynn Knight and Marvin Knight, Jr.

Frances “Mickey” Jones

MickeyFrances “Mickey” Edna Sprouse Jones, 83, of Luray, formerly of Craigsville, Virginia died Friday, April 17, 2020.

She was born April 7, 1937 in Craigsville, Virginia, the daughter of the late William Roy Sprouse and Lena Sprouse Sayers.

Mickey was formerly employed as a seamstress for 20 years at Stillwater.

She was a member of the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Mickey is survived by her children, Elizabeth Robin Mitchell and husband Wesley of Luray, Brenda Clifton of Craigsville, Teresa Gregory of Waynesboro, Russell Baker and wife Cathy of Ohio, and William Billy Baker of Craigsville; a stepdaughter, Margaret Jones of Staunton; a stepson, Rondell Jones of Staunton; grandchildren, David Clifton and Jay Clifton, both of Craigsville, Misty Carter of Waynesboro, Jereamia Jones of Staunton, Brandi Baker and Rusty Baker, both of Illinois, and Wesley Mitchell, Dwayne Mitchell, Nina Kling, Felicia Roberts and Christina Jones, all of Luray; great grandchildren, Natalie Clifton, D.J. Clifton and Audrey Ingram, all of Craigsville, Blake Gibson, Hunter Rhea and Raven Rhea, all of Waynesboro, Eli Jones and Aiden Jones, both of Staunton, and Chase Mitchell, Maddi Jones, Abbi Jones, Willow Kling, Ava Roberts and J.W. Roberts, all of Luray, and a special great-grandson, whom she raised Jacob Walker Jones, also of Luray; sister, Helen Loise Gardner of Craigsville; as well as Harvey Sprouse, who was raised as a brother, and Nellie Crummette, who was raised as a sister to her; special nieces Bonnie Sprouse of Craigsville, VA., Cindy Lane of Florida, nephew “Little Mick” Gardner of Craigsville, Va., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Jones, who preceded her on July 20, 2019, a daughter, Karen Jones; and four grandchildren, Keri Beth Jones, Clint Carter, Charles “Duckie” Clifton and Josh Jones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Billy Curry officiating.

Viewings may be done from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Hampton Junior Ingram

JuniorHampton Junior Ingram, 87, of Goshen, Virginia died Monday, March 16, 2020 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA.

He was born February 11, 1933 in Bath County, the son of the late Andrew Preston Ingram and Pauline Smith Ingram Longmire.

Junior was formerly employed as a carpenter by trade and a warehouse worker for Augusta Correctional Center.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Junior liked to work on cars in his free time.

He is survived by his son, Robert “Bobby” Ingram of Oklahoma; 3 granddaughters, Reagen, Allie, Lizzy; brother, Donald Ingram of Goshen; sisters, Charlotte Minter of Goshen, Marian Ferguson of Goshen, Sheila Vass of Staunton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Akins Ingram; and 5 sisters, Margaret Sours, Betty Petty, Hilda Montgomery, Ruth Byram, and May Lyle.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later time at Craigsville Funeral Home with Rev. Linwood Wilkes officiating. Interment will be in Lebanon Presbyterian Cemetery.

Dorothea Moore Scott

She was born May 2, 1923 in Staunton, Virginia, the daughter of the late Guy Wingfield Moore, Sr. and Dorothea Clayton Moore.  Dorothea was a lifelong homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Wesley Scott; grandson, Patrick Scott; and 1 great grandchild.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Scott, and a brother, Guy Moore, Jr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2020 at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Clain “Hoot” Powell, Jr.

HootClain “Hoot” Allen Powell, Jr., 85, of Goshen, Virginia died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA.

He was born July 14, 1934 in Bells Valley, VA, the son of the late Clain Allen Powell, Sr. and Ida Mae Patterson Powell.

Hoot was formerly employed as a roofer.  He was the official only member of the Bells Valley Worship Center.

Hoot is survived by his wife, Edith Mae Robertson Powell of Goshen; children, Linda Bethel and husband Dallas of Millboro, Sophia Shiplett and husband Pete of New Hope, Steward “Squeakie” Powell and wife Glenda of Staunton; grandchildren, Richard Bethel and wife Carrie, Kimberly Nieman and husband Jesse, Justin Stone; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special nieces, Libby Morris, Sandy Campbell, Jeanette Adkins, Shelly Sensabaugh; and special friend, Ronnie Campbell.

He was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Bells Valley Worship Center with Pastor Claudette Wilcher officiating, and Pastor Wayne Conners assisting. Interment will be in Craigsville Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Robertson, Chester Burke, Chris Robertson, A.W. Wilhelm, Robert Robertson, Wayne Powell, Jerry Moore, and Darrel Cobb.  Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Ingram, Adam Robertson, Clinton Robertson, JT Via, Ty Bethel, Vaden Lewis, Xavier Clain Lewis, Brandon Stone, Owen Nieman, Doug Cobb, and Dale Michael.

The family will receive friends the night before from 6 – 7 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Goshen Fire Department or Rescue Squad.

Robert “Bobby” Ingram

Bobby IngramRobert Earl “Bobby” “Ponch” Ingram, 78, of Craigsville, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Shenandoah House in Fishersville, Virginia.

He was born March 11, 1941 in Craigsville, Virginia, the son of the late John Earl Ingram and Anna Mae Lumsden Ingram.

Bobby was formerly employed with Stillwater in Craigsville.

He was a member of Peoples Baptist Church, and a lover of the outdoors and Nascar.

Bobby is survived by a special friend & caregiver, Audra Buzzard of Craigsville; a brother, Larry Ingram & wife Barbara of Craigsville; a sister-in-law, Tilly Ingram of Augusta Springs, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Roger and Jack Ingram.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2020 at Peoples Baptist Church with Pastor Claude Williams officiating. Interment will be in Craigsville Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Geraldine Patton Sweeney

SweeneyGeraldine Marie Patton Sweeney, 81, of Craigsville, Virginia died Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Craigsville, Virginia.

She was born January 18, 1938 in Hartstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James Scott Patton and Marie Elizabeth Livingston Patton.

Geraldine was employed as a CNA for many years.

She was a member of Goshen Baptist Church.

Geraldine is survived by her 4 daughters, Janet Sweeney, Karen Batton, Linda Hurin, Brenda Martin and life partner Cathy Haislett; grandchildren, Emily Benson and husband Joseph, Justin Batton and fiancé Aileen Hernandez, Shane Hurin and fiancé Fatema Bhagat, Breanna Hurin and fiancé Steven Sparrow, Michael Martin Jr. and girlfriend Christin Hall, Kayla Martin; great grandchildren, Easton Andrew Martin, Emmarie Faith Hall; and sisters, Elizabeth Geitgey and husband Richard of Ocala, Florida, Margaret Patton of Crown Point, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Ellis Sweeney.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Claudette Wilcher officiating. Interment will be in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Batton, Michael Martin, Jr., Shane Hurin, Joseph Benson, Matt Hagerman, and Ray Sweeney.

The family will receive friends half an hour before the services.

Margaret “Jenny” Sprouse

JennyMargaret “Jenny” Virginia Revercomb Sprouse, 91, of Craigsville, Virginia died Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Accordius in Waynesboro, Virginia.

She was born January 16, 1928 in Burnsville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Hugh Walker Revercomb and Rettie Mae Baylor Revercomb.

Jenny was formerly employed as a seamstress for Genesco.

She was a member of the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved baking, cooking, and reading Western novels.

Jenny is survived by her sons, Wallace W. Sprouse, Jr. and wife Carol of Stuarts Draft, Hugh F. Sprouse and wife Gloria of Staunton, who she resided with for the last 7 years; grandchildren, Sean Sprouse, Candi Armentrout, and Josh Sprouse; great grandchildren, Montana, Sierra, Bentley; sister, Connie Sue Timberlake of Manassas; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Shearon and Tommy Humphreys, Connie Swisher, and Mrs. Underwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Wallace Wyett Sprouse, and 8 siblings.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2019 at Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Billy Curry officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Sean Sprouse, Josh Sprouse, Gary Revercomb, Dale Micheals, Steve Puckett, and Tommy Humphreys.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 29 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home and at Hugh’s home at other times.

Elmer Casper Campbell

Elmer Casper Campbell, 63, of Goshen, Virginia died Monday, December 23, 2019 at VCU in Richmond, Virginia.

He was born March 17, 1956 in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Elmer Emmett Campbell and Georgie Virginia Ryder Campbell.

Casper was formerly employed as a lumber checker.  He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and a friend to everyone.

Casper is survived 2 brothers, Emmet Campbell and wife Cathy of Brownsburg, Homer Campbell and wife Brenda of Churchville; 4 sisters, Sue Patterson of Swoope, Frances Campbell of Craigsville, Nelonia Campbell of Craigsville, Gloria Strickler of Goshen; half-brother Glenn Campbell; 1 half-brother; 1 half-sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Carl Campbell.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Craigsville Community Cemetery with Pastor Billy Curry officiating.

Woodrow “Woody” Carroll

WoodyWoodrow “Woody” Wilson Carroll, 77, of Craigsville, Virginia went to his heavenly home Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Augusta Health.

He was born February 4, 1942 in Augusta County, Virginia, the son of the late Mildred Jackson Knight and Samuel Carroll, and step-son of the late John E. Knight.

Woody was a member of the Craigsville Church of God of Prophecy.  He worked for Bartlett Tree Company and Guy C. Eavers Contruction for many years before becoming disabled and being a full time homemaker for his daughter.  Woody loved to sit and listen to Pastor Terry Adkins.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, cracking fresh walnuts, spending time with his family and doing word search puzzles.

He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Miller and husband Chris of Craigsville; 2 grandchildren, Trenton and Kalyn Miller; brothers, Raymond Carroll and wife Susan, Glenwood Knight and wife Penny, Danny Knight and wife Shirley, John Knight, Jr and wife Carrolyn; sisters, Darlene Campbell and husband Pete, Bernice Welcher and husband Raymond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Woody loved all of his family deeply.  Besides his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, he held a special place in his heart for his sister and her husband, Darlene and Pete Campbell; his nieces and nephews, JoAnna and Eric Shiflett, Shana and Tyler Hoy, Lisa Tudor, Melissa “Tiny” Carroll; and his former caregiver, Wanda Sprouse.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Gregory Carroll, a sister Sylvia Carroll, and a brother Keith Jackson.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Craigsville Funeral Home with John Young officiating. Friends and family are welcome to visit at his daughter’s home in Craigsville at other times.
