Charles “Chick” Edward Vanmeter, 69, of Goshen, Virginia died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his home.
He was born December 13, 1948 in Parsons, West Virginia, the son of the late Ervin Charles Vanmeter and Bertha Crystal Cade Vanmeter.
Chick was formerly employed as an equipment operator for Rocky Dale Stone Quarry.
He was a hardworking man that would give someone the shirt off his back. He loved his family, especially his many grand and great grandchildren, as well as fishing and training horses.
Chick is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Peggy Sue Lotts Vanmeter, who he married in 1982; children, Mary Sue Karr, Shena Dudley and fiancé Curtis Riley, Jeff Hamilton and wife Lisa, Hope Nuckols and boyfriend Joe Riley; grandchildren that he raised, Lorry Stevens and Francis Miller, as well as 10 other grandchildren; great grandchildren, Austin Bryant, Daily Stevens, Kimber Stevens, and many others; brothers, Buck Vanmeter and wife Norma, Johnny Vanmeter and wife Connie, Hubby Vanmeter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Hamilton; grandsons, DJ Nuckols and TJ Mullen; brothers, George, Web, Denny, and Abe Vanmeter; and sisters, Piney Myers, Betty Soos, Louise Richmond, and Verna Lee Vanmeter.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Rev. John Haney officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Francis Miller, David Nuckols, Sr., Alvin Dudley, Jr., JW Karr, Joe Riley, and Eric Stevens.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. before the service at Craigsville Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Goshen Presbyterian Church.
