Della Mae Puckett

DellaDella Mae Sprouse Puckett, 84, of Craigsville, Virginia died peacefully Saturday, September 15, 2018 at her home.

She was born May 13, 1934 in Craigsville, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Franklin Sprouse and Deliliah May Thompson Sprouse .

Della was formerly employed as a seamstress at Genesco Textiles.

She was a member of the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazerene, who loved cooking, baking, crocheting, and reading the Bible.

Della is survived by her children, Steven Puckett and special friend Melody Smith of Greenville, Gary Puckett and fiancé Bernadine Campbell of Craigsville, Kevin Puckett and wife Vonda of Craigsville; grandchildren, Thomas, Maranda, Heather, Brandon, Dawn Marie, Kristin, Katie, Brooke, Kyle, and Hunter; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Harvey Sprouse and wife Hilda of Craigsville; sister, Nellie Crummette of Staunton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend and caregiver, Brenda Morris; and special friends, Cordelia Underwood, Connie Swisher.  A heartfelt thanks is extended to the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah, Laura Summy, Kathy Anderson, Mark Westebbe, and Liz Schreiber.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth, daughter Julia, great grandson, Toby, her brothers and sisters, William, Allan, Odell, Clemmer, Wallace, JB & Lloyd Sprouse, Louise Reid, Bonnie Simmons; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Puckett.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday September 20, 2018 at Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Billy Curry officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Puckett, Tom Humphries, Matt Cook, Michael James, Cody Bussard, and Ron Sprouse.  Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene and her cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene, 2117 Troxel Gap Road, Craigsville, VA  24430.

    Steve, Gary and Kevin,
    I was so sorry to hear about your Mom. Both of your parents were very special to me. She always wanted me to sing at her funeral and would ask everytime she seen me… “remember what I asked you” she would say… I would shake my head yes… And she would smile and shake her head. .wow. memories, they are special. I am keeping all of you and your families in my prayers during this difficult time.
