Phyllis Thornton Morris

38857369_1890398547921517_8107389943938023424_nPhyllis Fleecy Thornton Morris, 89, of Craigsville, Virginia died peacefully Thursday, August 9, 2018 at her home in Craigsville.

She was born February 9, 1929 in Charlottesville, the daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Thornton.

Phyllis was a lifelong homemaker.

She was a member of People’s Baptist Church, who loved her family, especially her many grandchildren.  She helped people clean their homes and loved to dance.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Monte Morris and wife Judy, Rebecca Morris, Penny Sprouse and husband Wilford, all of Craigsville; 13 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Monica Sprouse and husband Rusty; numerous great and great great grandchildren, a special great grandson, James “Peepers” Sprouse; special lifelong friends, Audrey Cassidy and Martha Coates, a special dog, Ryder; and a special thanks to Hospice of the Shenandoah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Jay Morris; daughter, Shirley Sprouse; son, Junior Morris; grandsons, Keith Sprouse and Gary Morris; and brothers, Clarce Myers, Condon Crist, and Ramas Myers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2018 at People’s Baptist Church with Pastor Claude Williams officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at Phyllis’s home at all other times.  Interment will be in Little River Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Fox, Steve Ingram, Marshall Sprouse, John Coffman, Donnie Colvin, Bill Tuttle, Johnny Ingram, and Chris Tuttle

Memorial contributions may be made to in lieu of flowers to Craigsville Funeral Home, P.O. Box 298, Craigsville, VA  24430.
