Arnold “Red” Elwood Hildebrand, 85, of Craigsville, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2018 surrounded by his family.
He was born October 31, 1932 in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Harry McKinley Hildebrand and Dorothy Mae Shifflett Hildebrand.
Elwood served his country in the US Army, and was a proud Veteran and member of the VFW. He was a dedicated and hard worker in construction as a foreman for his entire career. He took pride in his garden, rebuilding cars, was a skilled carpenter, and enjoyed TV westerns. He was a faithful member of the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene, and was a long time and honored volunteer at the Craigsville Food Pantry. He was a great Dad and beloved Papa.
He is survived by his wife, Stella May Wade Hildebrand, who he was united in marriage with on June 6, 1959; children, Joy Gum, Hope Gillespie, Faith McDonald; grandchildren, Travis, Rachel, and Makayla Hostetter, Morgan McDonald; a special son-in-law, Barry Gum; 1 brother; and two furry children, Peaches and Teddy.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday February 2, 2018 at Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Billy Curry officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church and at his home all other times.
