Millie Ann Campbell Layton Stokes Hicks, 84, of Augusta Springs, Virginia died Friday, June 9, 2017 at her home.
She was born December 8, 1932 in Bath County, the daughter of the late Lewis Downey Campbell and Mary Susan Martin Campbell.
Millie was formerly employed as a cook at Oakhill Nursing Home.
She was a member of Joyful Sound Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and the holidays.
Millie is survived by her children: Betty Ann Strickler of Craigsville, Hurbert Layton of Rocky Mount, Patsy Clifton of Craigsville; adopted daughter: Christy Stokes of Augusta Springs; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers: Nelson Campbell of Millboro, Thomas “Red” Campbell of Mount Airy, Maryland; half-brothers: John Campbell of York, South Carolina, Lewis Campbell, Jr. of Florida; half-sisters: Ruby Childress of York, South Carolina, Marie Campbell of Strasburg, Rachel Campbell of Staunton, Shirley Rodeffer of Weyers Cave; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Pete Layton, Jack Stokes, Jack Hicks; her daughter: Bertha Layton; brothers: George Campbell, Floyd Campbell; sister: Mary Jane Riley; and half-sister: Karren Campbell.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at Craigsville Community Cemetery with Pastor Terry Adkins officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Betty Strickler in Craigsville.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Craigsville Funeral Home to assist the family.
