Darrell “J.B.” Sprouse

 jbDarrell “J.B.” Veech Sprouse, 86, of Goshen, Virginia died Wednesday, October 05, 2016 at his home.

He was born April 27, 1930 in Craigsville, the son of the late John Franklin Sprouse and Deliliah May Thompson Sprouse.

J.B. was previously employed as a sewing machine mechanic for Tommy’s.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII and the Korean War.

J.B. was a member of Goshen Baptist Church. He was the mayor of Goshen for 8 years and was on the town council for 14 years.  He also served as a dispatcher for the Goshen Fire Company and Rescue Squad for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Viola Bowyer Sprouse of Goshen, Virginia; son: Darrell L. “Buddy” Sprouse of Bath County; grandson: Eli Sprouse of Goshen; brother: Harvey Sprouse & wife Hilda of Craigsville; sisters: Della Puckett of Craigsville, Nellie Crummette of Staunton; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special niece: Faye Fitzgerald.

J.B. was preceded in death by 6 brothers: William, Allan, Odell, Clemmer, Wallace, and Lloyd Sprouse; 2 sisters: Louise Reid and Bonnie Simmons.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Goshen Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Reese and Pastor Tyler Clem officiating. Interment will be in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the church.

The family will receive friends the night before from 6 – 7 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home.
