Billy James Kester, 89, of Goshen, Virginia passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Carillion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Virginia.
He was born March 7, 1927 in Slab Fork, West Virginia, the son of the late George Leonard Kester and Topsey Mae Sarver Kester.
Billy was retired from Estes Trucking and Hauling.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany from 1945 to 1946.
Billy was a member of Goshen Presbyterian Church. He loved his family and was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his daughter: Peggy Sue Patterson of Goshen; grandchild: Eric Nicholas Stevens & wife Lorry of Goshen; 2 great grandchildren; brother; Samuel Mack Kester of Midway, West Virginia; sisters; Alice Marie Paugh of Daniels, West Virginia, Emma Lauressa Chornoby & husband Eddie of Scarbro, West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Kester who passed on September 8, 1998, and 3 sisters: Loretta Kester, Bernice Compton, and Edna Allenbaugh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Goshen Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Haney & Bobby Spurgeon officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Kester, Tony Kester, Edmund Davidson, Steve Kester, James Ramsey, John Ramsey, honorary pallbearers are Billy Wayne Kester and Justin Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Craigsville Funeral Home.
