Betty Josephine Nichols Welcher, 90, of Craigsville, VA died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at her home.
She was born July 26, 1925 in Fordwick, VA, the daughter of the late Bernard S. Nichols and Grace Newcomb Nichols Herring.
Betty was formerly employed at the Stillwater Plant and the Post Office .
She was a member of Craigsville Southern Baptist Church and the Craigsville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a loving mother and a very hard worker.
Betty is survived by her daughter: Barbara W. Short of Craigsville, VA; daughter-in-law: Louise C. Welcher of Staunton, VA; brother: Eugene Nichols of Lake Charles, LA; numerous nieces and nephews; a life long friend: Gail Johnson, and her furry companion: Fuzzy A special thanks goes to her loving caregivers: Marilyn Strickler, Barbara Downey, Ellen McClanahan, Tina Riley, and Sheila Hunt; who treated her like family and with their excellent care she was able to remain in her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lawrence F. Welcher, her son: Allen R. Welcher, her daughter: Betty Jean Welcher, her son-in-law: Blaine C. Short, and her brothers: Ray and Wilbur Nichols.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Craigsville Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Quick officiating. Interment will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Benson, Kelly Wilcher, Jeff Graham, Richard Kirkland, Donnie Colvin, Donald Minter, and Toney Woods
The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m., Sunday February 14, at Craigsville Funeral Home and at her home at other times.
