James “Chicken” Lawhorn

James “Chicken” Lawhorn, 83, of Goshen, Virginia died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his residence.

He was born January 5, 1931 in Bath County, the son of the late Roy Lee and Louise Karr Lawhorn.

He was retired from Edward’s Exxon and the manager of C & K’s Hardware.

Chicken was a member of Goshen Presbyterian Church, and he faithfully attended Sunday school.  He loved to mow and crack walnuts.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Farrar Lawhorn of Goshen;  son: Blaine Lee Lawhorn and wife Glenna of Goshen;  3 grandchildren: Roy Lee Lawhorn and wife Michelle of Goshen, Leslie Louise Lawhorn and friend Eric of Craigsville, and Morgan Renee Kay and husband Anthony of Goshen; 3 great grandchildren: Katrina Lynn Lawhorn of Goshen, Curtis “CJ” Howard, Jr. of Goshen, and Khloe Rayne Lewis of Craigsville; 2 brothers; Harrison Lawhorn and wife Jessie of Craigsville and Donald Lawhorn and wife Pat of Goshen; 3 sisters; Mary Bosley of Fredrick, Maryland, Bonnie Sampson and husband Gerald of Goshen, Gale Tolley and husband Billy of Goshen; special nephew; Josh Tolley of Goshen; brother in law; Bill Farrar of Harrisonburg; sister in law; Mary Frances Hostetter and husband Junior of Swoope; several nieces and nephews; and a special pet Missy.

Chicken was preceded in death by 1 brother Russell Lawhorn, and 2 sisters Thelma Huffman and Betty Lou Huffman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday September 25, 2014 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Reese and Pastor Tyler Clem officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Burke, Glenn Thompson, Freeman Sensabaugh, Billy Via, Edmond Davidson, Doug Thompson, J.B. Graham, and Timmy Alphin; Honorary Pallbearers: Goshen Volunteer Rescue Squad, Goshen Fire Department, Dorsey Dill, Delano Jack Sr., Skeet Jack; Lyle, Glen, and George Alphin, Jackie Graham, Wayne and Larry Nycum, Steffy Burke, Gary Powell, Buddy Petty, Albert Nicely, and all his friends attending the service

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Craigsville Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Volunteer Rescue Squad or Goshen Fire Department.
