Galen “Muskrat” Leon Adkins, 52, of Augusta Springs, Virginia died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.
He was born May 26, 1961 in Staunton, Virginia, the son of the late William H. Adkins and Marion Clifton Adkins.
He was employed with Pitman Tree Service as a tree trimmer. He enjoyed carpentry work; was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting. He enjoyed taking drives through the mountain with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Judith “Judy” Adkins of Augusta Springs, whom he married on April 1, 1981; 3 children, Melissa Corbin & fiancé Randy Berry of Augusta Springs, Edward Corbin & wife Angela of Craigsville, Virginia and Christopher Corbin of Craigsville; 5 grandchildren; his shadow & buddy, Jeffrey Cason II; 1 great grandchild; 3 brothers; Allen Adkins & wife Jeanette of Staunton, Virginia, Jerry Adkins of Craigsville, Richard Adkins & wife Laurie of Staunton; 4 sisters; Martha Botkin & husband Alywin of Stephens City, Virginia, Linda Campbell of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Donna Litzenberg & husband Charles of Staunton, and Rita Sheridan & husband William of Poquoson, Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, William & Harry Adkins; and 2 sisters, Lola Zucatti and Terry Adkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at JoyfulSoundChurch in AugustaSprings with Pastor Mike Herring officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at Craigsville Funeral Home.
